There are a few different ways you can DIY your air freshener. That’s great news because you can customize your air freshener based on scent, available ingredients, and how you want to use it. There’s everything fro sprays, to gels and diffusers. We’ll show you how to make them all! Considering that many more people are staying home nowadays, keeping your air fresh has never been more important!

Air Freshener Spray

Sprays are great options because you can mask scents whenever you need to. The formula is simple. Mix 3 parts water to 1 part emulsifier. You can use alcohol or even vodka as the emulsifier. Add your favorite essential oil. You’ll only need a few drops. 10 drops for a small bottle, 20 for a larger one is a good rule of thumb. Just shake it up and you’re good to go!

Some additional tips:

  • Experiment with different essential oils to find your favorite!

  • We love lemon, lavender and citrus oil.

  • Use distilled water if you can. This will ensure it lasts as long as possible.

  • You can spray clothes to freshen them up.

  • Remember you can spray the air or your furniture!

Gels and Diffuser

Diffusers use the same simple formula as your spray bottle. Just put them in a vase with a narrow opening. This slows the evaporation process. Add a few reed diffusers and the scent will slowly get added to the air over time.

Gels are a little different, but accomplish the same goal, as they will add scent over time. If you’ve made jello before than it’s basically the same process. Make unflavored gelatin as normal, but add salt to prevent spoilage. Also include a dozen drops of essential oils and those particles will get released as it evaporates. Refrigerate them and divide them as you wish and your home will be smelling better in no time!
