WHAT'S IN MY AIR DUCTS?

Cleaning can remove 5 to 15 pounds of dirt, germs, pollen, bacteria, fungus, mold, mildew and debris from the ductwork. Forced air systems pull in contaminated outdoor air and send it to all parts of your house through ducts where it comes out of registers into each room. Filters collect what they can, but they don't get everything. Some of the dirt drops down and settles in the ducts, making a breeding ground for bacteria and, if moisture, mold. Some of the dirt from the outside air, or dirt picked up from the floor of ducts, is expelled into the room reducing indoor air quality. Other things we've found in air ducts have been insect carcasses, and rodent droppings. Per the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, "Some of these contaminants may cause allergic reactions or other symptoms in people exposed to them." According to Glenn Fellman, Executive Director of the National Air Duct Cleaners Association, "In addition to health problems, clogged air ducts can clog heating and air conditioning system components, decreasing the efficiency of the system and leading to higher energy bills."

HOW DO YOU RID MY DUCTS OF DEBRIS?

Our technicians clean all the supply and return air ducts and registers, grilles and diffusers, heat exchangers, heating and cooling coils, condensate drain pans, fan motor and fan housing and the air handling unit housing. We cover and protect the work area, remove the vent and then clean it. We hook up a high-powered HEPA (High Efficiency Particulate Air) vacuum system for a dust-free cleaning, then send various custom tools down the duct run to scrub the dirt off the inside walls. The dirt is immediately collected into the vacuum system. We replace filters if provided and leave the place clean and tidy.

HOW OFTEN SHOULD MY AIR DUCTS BE CLEANED?

Of course you should clean the ducts prior to moving into a new home and after home remodeling. A thorough cleaning of air ducts should be done every one to five years depending upon the following factors. Your ducts would need cleaning more often if you have residents with allergies or asthma, pets which shed a lot of hair and dander, smokers living in the home, water contamination or damage. If you see visible mold growth inside sheet metal ducts or on other components of your heating and cooling system or if ducts are infested with rodents or insects, you should consider cleaning your ducts, not to mention if you know your ducts are clogged with dust and debris and particles are actually being released into your home from your registers. Maintaining the level of cleanliness in your home depends on your personal lifestyle preference, the degree that you consider germs to be a detriment to health and a measure of your perception of differences in air quality. Our company can help you preserve your cleanliness standards by coming to clean your ducts at the regular intervals you require.
